Hull City manager Steve Bruce has confirmed our exclusive story on the collapse of the Charlie Austin deal.
Speaking on Talk Sport this morning, Bruce said the deal was "a non-starter".
He said a medical problem had ended a bid for the Burnley striker.
"There has been a bit of a problem with his medical, which is the worst scenario for everybody concerned," he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.
"It's an awful situation we find ourselves in but the medical is not great so it looks as if it is a non-starter at the moment. I think he is surprised because he has not missed many games over the last couple of years.
"It is a blow for him and a blow for us but these medicals are so stringent and obviously he has got a problem."
Bruce said at a Hull City press conference this afternoon an issue with Austin's knee was behind the decision. The problem had not been anticipated before scans were taken during yesterday's medical.
The City boss will now go back to the drawing board in his search for a striker of Premier League quality.
"I would expect us to still bring in two or three at least to try to give us a hand," he said.
Meanwhile, Bruce confirmed City would travel to Germany as part of their pre-season programme.
