Danny Brough's late try condemned Hull FC to a fourth successive Super League defeat despite an improved performance at the KC Stadium.
Hull went down 22-16 to Huddersfield Giants, with Brough's score settling a close-fought affair.
Hull had taken the lead early in the game through Chris Green's try after good work by Ben Galea, but then found themselves trailing when Joe Wardle and Ukuma Ta'ai went over for the visitors.
A Kirk Yeaman score just before the break reduced the gap to two points when Danny Tickle missed the conversion.
Jermaine McGillvary then extended Huddersfield's lead before Mark O'Meley's barge over try and Tickle's conversion levelled the game with 20 minutes to play.
Shannon McDonnell though he'd scored a potential match-winner late on only to see it disallowed for offside before Brough popped up to break Hull's hearts.
