IT IS known for its picturesque pond in the centre of the village.

It is also twinned with the village of Lestrem in Northern France.

With a population of just under 4,000, Swanland has been named as the most expensive place to live in the East Riding.

According to new research by Zoopla, an average property in the Swanland area will cost you in the region of £283,000.

The most expensive street in the whole of the East Riding is also in Swanland.

Properties for sale in Kemp Road will set you back an average of £774,351.

Linda Dunston, manager of estate agents Beercock Wiles and Wick, said: "The reason Swanland tops the table is because of its exclusivity and it's desirable location.

"Swanland Primary School is an outstanding school – it really is first class – while the travel links are second to none.

"You have direct access by train to Kings Cross in London and other major cities.

"The local pub, the Swan and Cygnet, has also recently been refurbished and is very up and coming.

"The village also has a post office, café, beauty salon and a pharmacy right on people's doorstep."

Located seven miles away from Hull, Councillor Julie Abraham, who represents the South Hunsley ward, also believes Swanland is the perfect location.

She said: "I think the main reason the area is so attractive to people is the ease of accessibility it has to both Hull and the rest of Yorkshire and beyond, with fantastic transport links.

"It is also a lovely area to live in, there is a real community feel here.

"We also have some fantastic schools nearby, which attracts a lot of families."

Chair of Swanland Parish Council, Geoff Chapman, said: "Swanland is a very pleasant place to live.

"There is a lot going on here and we have a lot of community events."

Also making the top ten most expensive places are Brough, Beverley, Cottingham and Driffield.

The average home in Beverley will set you back £192,451, with the town having two of the highest-valued streets in the top ten.

Properties for sale in Bentley and Seven Corners Lane are priced at around £728,000 and £640,000.

The cheaper areas to live in the region include Goole, Bridlington and Hull.

The average house for sale in Hull costs in the region of £117,000, while a property in Goole will set you back £143,000.

According to the study by Zoopla, Kensington Palace Gardens in London is the country's most expensive street, with the average price tag of £36 million for a property.

Zoopla took its findings from estimates on its own website of the current worth of properties.
