Teenage boys usually ask Santa for the latest games console or a new wardrobe full of labels, but Kallum Thomson wrote to Femail asking for a makeover for his mum.

The 13-year-old is very proud of his mum, Ellen Thomson, who has just been offered a new job.

Kallum said: "She has been trying to find work and last week she found out she had been successful in a job interview.

"I would like to nominate my mum for a treat because I would like her to have a nice, special day."

Kallum has always encouraged his mum, even telling her to follow her dream of becoming a nurse when she became pregnant with her daughter, Summer.

The 31-year-old started the Adult Nursing course at the University of Hull last year.

Unfortunately, she has had to take a year out from her studies, due to money problems, and find work.

After a long job hunt, Ellen starts work at Longhill House residential home this month.

"She is bringing up me and my sister by herself," Kallum said.

"She regularly goes without to make sure we have everything we need.

"I think this would be a nice way to say thank you, well done and show her that we love her."

Femail sent Ellen to George, at Asda, in Bilton, and Colour Lounge, in Carr Lane, Hull.

Emma Brumhead, sales assistant at Asda Bilton, said: "Ellen knew exactly what she wanted when it came to picking out clothes.

"She was after some knits and picked out some really nice colours.

"She was looking for everyday wear and some casual, comfortable clothes, especially for the winter season.

"The cream jumper with the silver bow will be perfect for Christmas daywear."

Stacey France, who did the makeup at Colour Lounge, said: "Ellen wanted a natural look.

"I highlighted the whole eye area then used a soft biscuity colour to cover and a soft beige lightly to the outer corner of the eye.

"I used a black eyeliner across the eyelid and slightly underneath the eye.

"BB tinted moisturiser was applied.

"This was followed by bronzer and blusher, finishing with soft pink gloss on the lips."

Ellen loved having a day away from it all.

She said: "I really enjoyed it, it made a change being pampered.

"My little boy was at school and my mum had Summer, so it was good to have some me-time.

"I had already had a look at the website and got there a bit early to look around.

"I wanted casual, everyday clothes. It is just nice to have something new.

"At Colour Lounge, they cut in a fuller fringe and took some off the length. I love it, I looked really different."

Kallum is always thinking of his mum.

Ellen said: "Whenever he gets pocket money he tries to give some to me to buy something nice.

"I want to thank him for nominating me."

Kelley Meyerhoff, stylist at Colour Lounge, said: "With Ellen's hair, we decided to add red flashes as she had coloured her hair previously at home and it was an all-over colour.

"We added a soft, warm brown all over, to give depth and shine.

"With the cut, we made the fringe thicker.

"We neatened up the ends, and then we shaped the front more to frame Ellen's face."
