A NEW £7m footbridge over the River Hull has been officially opened.
Lord Mayor Councillor Nadine Fudge performed the honours yesterday as crowds gathered to rise on the unique structure.
It is the only swing bridge in the UK that allows pedestrians to stand on it while it moves.
Hopes are high that it will provide much easier access between the Old Town and the east bank of the river.
Colin Brown, chief executive of The Deep, said: "It's taken a long time to finally open but now that it's here, we need to make the most of the bridge."
Mark Sutton Vane, whose company installed the bridge's lighting, said: "It's been a very exciting project to work on. There's no other bridge like it."
