SEAN Gleeson hopes he can have a major role to play in the remainder of Hull KR's season.
Gleeson finally made his first appearance of an injury-hit campaign in the shock 22-21 win at Catalan at the weekend.
Having seen a back problem sideline him for the first 18 games, the 25-year-old is now hoping to make up for lost time.
"It's been a tough time for me missing so much of the season," Gleeson told the Mail.
"It's the longest I've been injured in my career, but I'm glad I've come through it.
"For a first game back, it was tough with the heat and I was blowing a bit as fatigue crept in.
"I felt I was running in concrete a few times, but I'll be okay after a few more games.
"Fortunately, I'm over the injury now and we can push on, get a few more wins and give it a good go between now and the end of the season.
"I've pulled through and don't have any pain in my back, which is a massive plus, especially after facing a big set of players.
"Hopefully, I can get back to my best and play well in the last eight games and the play-offs."
Whilst Gleeson's return gave coach Craig Sandercock a welcome boost, the centre did miss training yesterday because of sickness and will be monitored for the rest of the week.
But if he does prove his fitness ahead of Friday's visit to St Helens, the former Salford man is determined to chase a place in the play-offs.
"We are looking to put a good run together in the final third of the season," Gleeson added.
"We've beaten Saints twice this season and everybody's confidence is high after going to Catalan and winning. Not many teams do that.
"We stuck together to get the Catalan win and we're going to need that for the rest of the season and take the same form into the play-offs."• Graeme Horne is an injury doubt for this Friday's game at St Helens because of a dislocated finger.Have you seen our new sport section?Bookmark hulldailymail.co.uk/sport for the very best and exclusive local content.
