COACH Craig Cook admitted East Hull "went back to basics" to beat struggling Myton Warriors 32-10 at Rosmead Street.

Furious after his side's 50-22 defeat at Leigh Miners Rangers last week, Cook was in a more upbeat mood after Easts put last season's Grand Finalists to the sword.

"What a difference a week makes," he told the Mail.

"Unlike last week against Leigh Miners, this time one to 17 turned up to play.

"They had a good attitude, togetherness and worked hard for each other. There was a good attitude at training on Tuesday and Thursday because everyone knew it was a derby on Saturday.

"We stripped it down and simplified our game plan, got back to basics and did what we do best.

"We stuck to our game plan and we got the win."

Myton trailed 28-0, before Ben Thorpe scored two tries inside the last 10 minutes.

Dale Blakeley and Chris Lythe's tries and a goal from Carl Puckering put Easts 10-0 ahead.

After half-time, Easts carried on the points scoring with tries from Scott Partis (50), Puckering (60) and Sam Cator (72), with Puckering converting all three for 28-0.

Thorpe added his two tries, with one Kristopher Walker conversion, before Cator added his second try three minutes from time.

Cook added: "Myton are a good side, in fact it was probably the best side they'd had out all year, but you can only play what's in front of you.

"I think we put them under pressure from the first minute and they didn't have a chance to recover."

• SKIRLAUGH stay rooted to the foot of the National Conference Premier Division table after going down 38-14 at Egremont.
