WEST Hull coach Mark Hewitt believes breaking into the top six has given his side a psychological boost to move further up the ladder.
Wests have won four of their last five league matches, including three derby wins, to move into a play-off spot.
Tomorrow, they face another in-form side in the shape of York Acorn, who arrive at Walter Simpson Park on the back of four wins from five.
But having lost their first eight games of the National Conference Premier Division season, Hewitt is hoping to inflict another defeat on them this weekend.
"We're in good form," he told the Mail. "Our defence has been good in recent weeks and we're doing the little things right.
"Our attack has also been good when we've managed to keep 13 men on the field.
"I think breaking into the top six has given us a confidence boost this week that we're not that far from the top sides.
"You can really see the difference in training and the guys have bought into what we're trying to achieve.
"We're at home again this week, which is always a plus, and we're looking to move further up the ladder."
Interestingly, Wests face York next week in the return fixture and Hewitt admits his side will face a stern test.
"We're going to take it one game at a time," he continued. "York are in good form but couldn't buy a win earlier in the season.
"Now they're starting to put some big scores on some good teams.
"They're a big unit so will be looking for good go forward and fast play-the-balls.
"Our defence in and around the ruck has been good in recent weeks and we'll have to control that again this week to be successful."
Luke Foster and James Jackson both picked up knocks last week so will miss out and Josh Hart is on holiday.
On a positive, Wests welcome back Jordan Lee, Tom Cook, Aaron Hickingbotham and possibly Matty Plummer, with Brett Turner still a week away from fitness.
