A MAN who claims to be one of the first victims of a businessman who abused young apprentices says he will now go to police.

Nicholas Holbrook was found guilty of a string of sex assaults last week and was sentenced to seven years in prison.

Now, a further alleged victim, who does not want to be named, says he may now finally go to police after almost 30 years.

The man was a teenager in the Territorial Army (TA) at the time when Holbrook was a sergeant.

Despite a complaint being filed by the man and another youth at the time, the allegations were never presented to the police, but Holbrook was told to leave the TA.

The man said: "At the time I wanted to tell people what was happening, but I didn't know where to turn.

"When I was trying to tell some of the lads, they all just made light of it.

"I was scared of opening my mouth as Holbrook could make my life very uncomfortable."

The man has spent years under the impression nothing ever happened in relation to his complaints.

He said: "When all his other offences came to light recently, I didn't even realise Holbrook had been asked to leave the TA.

"It seems to have been swept under the carpet to avoid any bad publicity."

Despite Holbrook finally being jailed, it has not given any closure to the man.

The man said: "At the time, we were left with no support and no one to talk to.

"In my eyes, he wasn't held accountable for what he did to me.

"As it stands, he has only been sentenced for specific offences."

The man, who plans to contact police this week, believes his experience has had a huge effect on his life.

He said: "I have lived with this for years.

"At one point, I was drinking a lot and getting into fights.

"I feel angry he has gone on to commit more offences.

"It is still hard to talk about this now.

"It is still there in the back of my mind and it will never go away.

"He has only got seven years and will be able to move away and get on with his life.

"For me, it will be with me for the rest of my life."

During last week's trial, the jury heard how Holbrook, of Hartsholme, Kingswood, targeted young men sent to his training school Holbrook Training by their employers to learn to drive forklift trucks.

The jury of five men and seven women at Hull Crown Court found Holbrook unanimously guilty of raping and sexually assaulting two victims.

Now, another five men have come forward to report further allegations against Holbrook to Humberside Police.

They say Holbrook sexually assaulted them while they were on week-long training courses.

One man said he was lured to Holbrook's office on the pretext of a job offer before he was attacked.

Holbrook has been ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life.
