HULL FC will not wait too long for Hull KR prop Mickey Paea to make a decision on his future for fear of missing out on other potential targets.
As previously reported by the Mail, Hull have spoken to the 27-year-old forward, who is understood to have addressed his Rovers team-mates yesterday to inform them in person that he would be leaving the club at the end of the current campaign.
Paea's agent Darryl Mather told the Mail last week that Paea would "come home at the end of the season and weigh up his options."
But Hull will not wait that long for an answer as they have other targets in the pipeline.
Last season Hull were lining up a move for Paea's brother, Lopini, only to see a deal they thought they had tied up fall away late in the process as he opted to stay at Catalan Dragons.
While Paea has made it clear he won't be staying at Rovers, the lure of the NRL is holding up any contract talks, with a return to Australia his preferred option.
Hull, Wigan and Catalan are aware of the situation, but the Black and Whites will not wait too long having also spoken to other targets with regards to recruitment for 2014.
Asked about Hull's interest in Paea, FC coach Peter Gentle was reluctant to talk about him, but did admit an approach had been made.
"We've made an offer, as have a few other clubs, but we'll have to see how that works out. We've targeted a few players," he told the Mail.
With Mark O'Meley retiring at the end of the season, Hull are eager to recruit a player who can add size and aggression through the middle.
HULL are hopeful England star Gareth Ellis will be fit to play Castleford on Friday despite hobbling off in the win over the Exiles.
Ellis sustained a back spasm, but Gentle says he'll be assessed again later in the week and has a chance of playing.
