Dean Windass: Hull City's play-off win against Watford is my top KC Stadium memory

WITH all these celebrations going on with regards to the KC being 10 years old, it would be remiss of me to not add my memories.

Having left Hull City when we were still at Boothferry Park, I thought when the KC opened I'd missed my chance to play there in a Tigers shirt.

Thankfully, Phil Brown brought me back to the club and I got to make my second debut.

Coming back was even more special given the game was against Leeds United.

The result didn't go our way, but it was still a special evening that I'll always remember.

The reception I got from the fans was terrific and it was a vital game and a big occasion, so an ideal night to make my KC debut for City.

Having scored a few hat-tricks at Boothferry Park it was nice to also have one at the KC and the game against Southend is special for that reason.

As a striker scoring a hat-trick is something you never forget and no matter where you do it, it's a special game. But getting one at the KC in front of the City fans made it even better.

Those fans were always there for me and that's why the night against Watford when we reached the play-off final probably sits top of my list of KC memories.

I know what the City fans have been through, I saw when the club sold me to Aberdeen what a mess they were in. The lockouts, the abuse Terry Dolan and Martin Fish took, the club had been through tough times.

So to see the fans empty on to the pitch after we booked our place at Wembley was special. It meant so much to the fans and that made it even more special for me.

It is a great stadium, although it remains an unusual one in terms of atmosphere.

Unlike most grounds, it doesn't have a Kop. There are no groups of vocal fans behind the goal, with the south stand a more family area and the north stand full of away fans.

After playing in front of a really noisy south stand at Boothferry Park, this took some getting used to. But, it still remains a great venue to play your football.
