The Hull City fan has painted his vintage Lambretta moped in the colours of his team.
Mr Leighton has been going to the team's matches since he was eight.
"My Lambretta was originally orange but I painted the stripes on to make it more Hull City-ish," he said.
"All the young lads, when they see it, they all start shouting.
"I had a Lambretta a few years ago and this is going back to my roots."
The scooter was first registered in 1977.
When it was bought by Mr Leighton, 57, he rebuilt the engine.
"You do get little problems with them but nothing you can't repair yourself," he said.
"On the rebuilt engine, I've done about 6,000 miles.
"They were only made to go down to the shops."
East Yorkshire has a thriving vintage scooter community.
Mr Leighton's club, Movin Scene,
He also travels to rallies up and down the country.
"I like the style of the bike and the scooter scene," he said.
"It's quite big in Hull. There are quite a few clubs – it's linked to northern soul."
Even when surrounded by other Lambrettas, the Hessle man's moped stands out from the crowd. It often attracts admiring glances.
"I won a trophy with it at a scooter show," he said.
"The judge must have been a Hull City fan.
"I do get a lot of recognition with it. The scooters go up in value if you keep on top of them."
Mr Leighton used to work for BAE Systems.
For years, he was part of the pitch-side entertainment at City matches, along with his colleagues.
"We used to go on the pitch at half time, run up and down and try to score a goal at the end," he said.
"We got a free pint afterwards. I still go when I can.
"I think City are doing all right under Steve Bruce."
The next big outing for his scooter will be at Brighton this summer, when thousands of riders descend on the town's beaches to celebrate the 1950s mod scene.
It was the backdrop to rallies – and violence between rival street gangs – when the culture was at its height.
"All our scooter clubs go down to Brighton and it will be absolutely full of Lambrettas," Mr Leighton said.
"Obviously, there's no fighting nowadays.
"I love my Lambretta – it's a vintage vehicle."
Every Thursday when the weather is fine, Mr Leighton's scooter can be spotted racing along the East Riding's roads.
"When the sun shines, I always ride it," he said.
