A man has been arrested after a woman was injured in Castle Street on the A63.
The female pedestrian moved into the path of an oncoming truck and has been taken to hospital.
Although the woman is believed to have not collided with the vehicle, police say she has sustained "some injuries".
Emergency services were called about 1.16pm today (Thursday) and the woman has been taken to Hull Royal Infirmary.
Police, including the police helicopter, are in attendance undertaking enquiries and a 51-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
The road is currently closed to enable investigations to be carried out and diversions are in place.
A spokeswoman for Humberside Police said: "The incident is thought to have involved a woman pedestrian moving into the path of an oncoming vehicle, a white DAF truck type vehicle.
"The woman has sustained some injuries, which are not thought to be serious, though the vehicle is not believed to have collided with her."
Motorists stuck in traffic have posted updates on Twitter and East Yorkshire Motor Services (EYMS) have apologised for the delay of the X55 bus on the way into the city centre.
One Twitter user said: "I've never known the traffic like this and I go down #a63 most days!!"
Another female motorist claimed she was stuck in a 55 minute jam with "no end in sight."
Police say the road is closed "for the foreseeable future."
Anyone with information is asked to call Humberside Police on 101, quoting log 292 of today (Thursday, June 6).
