A DRIVER has been jailed after crashing his car into an elderly woman's home during a high-speed police chase.
Connor Willis was travelling at speeds of up to 73mph when he lost control of his Fiat Punto and crashed into the 86-year-old woman's home as she slept.
James Byatt, prosecuting at Hull Crown Court, said the woman felt depressed and had difficulty sleeping after the crash on Boxing Day last year.
The damage caused by the crash to the wall at the woman's home in Goole Road, Hook, took three months to repair.
Mr Byatt said: "She was in bed at the time and the impact caused her bed to move.
"She was woken up but did not go downstairs until the following morning, when she saw the damage.
"There were cracks to the wall on both the inside and outside. She had building work for three months to the outside and for several weeks inside her living room."
Police first spotted Willis, 26, just after 10pm on the A645 at Camblesforth in North Yorkshire. He did not stop when they put their lights on, so they followed him towards Goole.
Mr Byatt said Willis mounted the kerb on the roundabout between the A614 and M62 before heading into Goole town centre.
"He went on to the wrong side of the road in Stanhope Street, causing oncoming vehicles to take evasive action," he said.
"He went the wrong way around a roundabout and through a red traffic light. He was travelling at speeds of up to 73mph in a 30mph zone.
"Ultimately, he lost control on a sharp right-hand bend. He struck the kerb, went across a grass verge and through a hedge and a fence and into the side wall of a house.
"He was arrested at the scene and was described as being 'heavily in drink'. He needed assistance to stand."
Willis, of Marshfield Road, Goole, refused to give police a breath sample so they could see how much he had been drinking.
He admitted dangerous driving, failing to provide a breath sample and driving with no insurance.
His barrister, Charlotte Baines, said Willis's girlfriend had ended their relationship hours before the crash and he suffered from anxiety and depression.
The Honorary Recorder of Hull and the East Riding, Judge Michael Mettyear, jailed him for six months.
He said: "You drove in a disgraceful and dangerous manner.
"This 86-year-old lady took things very badly although, thank God, she is rather better now.
"This was absolutely monstrous behaviour and only immediate custody can be justified."
Willis was also banned from driving for three years.
