HULL: A share of £1.5m in Lottery funding will go towards helping improve the health of East Yorkshire residents.
The money is part of a £40m investment from the Big Lottery Fund's national £200m programme to boost people's wellbeing. The grant will allow the Altogether Better initiative to expand into Hull and East Yorkshire.
The scheme will see 720 volunteer "health champions" work with their local GP practice, community hospital, foundation trust or social-care providers.
Altogether Better director Alyson McGregor said: "We are delighted with the news.
"The grant will provide us with an opportunity to explore ways of working which develop good ideas and create an opportunity to transform the way services and citizens work together."
Caroline James, Yorkshire and Humber spokeswoman for the Big Lottery Fund, said: "This is fantastic news for our region as research shows community-based projects like this can have a significant impact on people's health and wellbeing."
