Hull City favourite Andy Dawson has completed his return to Scunthorpe United. Dawson made 317 appearances for the Tigers during a 10-year adventure that saw him win four promotions. The 34-year-old left-back has signed a one-year, with an extra year's option, as a player-coach. As revealed by the Mail two weeks ago, Dawson was widely expected to return to the club where he played 228 times between 1998 and 2003. Dawson's departure after a popular testimonial year marks the end of an era: he was the last remaining link to the Tigers' famous 2008 Wembley promotion. Although the possibility of a coaching role with the Tigers was mooted, the opportunity to extend his playing days for at least another two seasons has eventually proved irresistible. One final challenge will now come under Brian Laws, the manager who signed Dawson for the Iron from Nottingham Forest in 1998. Former team-mate Richard Garcia told the Mail last week that word could not describe how much Dawson had put into City. "People will call him the ultimate professional but that just comes naturally to him," said the Australian international. "The majority of his career has gone into helping Hull City climb up through all the divisions of English football and the supporters love him for that. "To see him enjoying his testimonial year has been fantastic. He certainly deserves it." City fans are set to have a chance to say goodbye to Dawson at a testimonial match at the KC Stadium, provisionally planned for the final week of City's pre-season programme. Full details have yet to be announced.Andy Dawson: A career in pictures
