A BULL mastiff got more than it bargained for when it wanted a breath of fresh air, becoming trapped in a window.
Firefighters were called to the house in Seaton Grove, off Boothferry Road, where they found the hapless animal struggling to get inside.
A Humberside Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said: "A neighbour called us after spotting a dog struggling, with its front paws resting on the outside sill.
"The dog's owner was not at home.
"The dog's back legs were still inside, but it couldn't back inside."
Firefighters, who arrived at the scene shortly before 3pm on Wednesday, scaled a ladder to reach the second floor window and were able to push the dog back indoors.
The spokeswoman said: "Fortunately, the bull mastiff was not aggressive and our firefighters had no trouble.
"We left the incident in the care of an RSPCA inspector who was also called to the scene."
The person who called the fire brigade said the dog's owner had only recently moved into the property and did not have a contact number."
