Planning policies aimed at encouraging 1,400 new homes to be built every year in the East Riding until 2029 will be discussed by scrutiny councillors next week.
The East Riding Local Plan includes a number of significant proposed greenfield urban extensions to existing urban sites across the county.
In addition, 25 per cent of new housing over the lifetime of the plan is expected to be built on brownfield land.
New housing development will mainly be focused towards existing major towns and villages.
A new report for next week's environment and regeneration scrutiny committee says representations from developers and agents during the plan's consultation process argued for an annual target in excess of 2,000 homes would be required to fully meet the needs of the area.
The council is currently assessing and analysing the more than 5,500 responses it received during the consultation exercise.
