THEY fought off tiredness and exhaustion to raise money to send pupils from two schools on the trip of a lifetime.
Eight boxers did a total of 96 three-minute rounds each, hitting a punchbag to raise money to send pupils from Archbishop Sentamu and Kelvin Hall on a rugby tour to Australia.
The event, at the Swiss Cottage pub in Holderness Road, east Hull, was part of a fundraising weekend.
The schools have been aiming to raise £65,000 for the trip. After the 24-hour boxathon, the total stands at about £63,000.
The pupils are travelling in five weeks.
Tony Elvin, of Archbishop Sentamu Academy, said: "It was fantastic, absolutely brilliant. The east Hull community came out to support the event.
"The boys are five weeks away from going on the trip of a lifetime.
"The community has come out in numbers to support them and we are so thankful."
The boxers started the challenge at 2pm on Saturday and went through the night to 2pm on Sunday.
Another bag was also in the pub so revellers could have a go at punching and support those taking part in the challenge.
The weekend is expected to have raised about £2,000.
Karen Franklin, who runs the pub with partner Cliff, said: "It was fantastic.
"We were asked if we could do it and we had the venue, so we said yes. It was brilliant.
"The pub was rammed with people. We had singers and a fair on Sunday and bands on over the weekend.
"We wanted to help out to raise money for the kids.
"The boxers kept going all the way through and everyone had a great time."
Spencer Sharkett organised the event and took part himself.
His son Cameron, 15, is one of those going to Australia.
Spencer said: "We can't thank Swiss Cottage enough.
"The number of people who turned up for the event was amazing. It was quite emotional.
"I have organised a few of these for charity and I can't thank the boxers enough. They are friends of mine and when I asked they all said yes."
Steve Bulman, whose son Josh is going to Australia, also joined in.
"Everyone was fantastic," he said. "I hit the wall at about 2am but got up and started walking around. All the lads were geeing each other up.
"Everyone was saying what a great time they were having and what a great thing it is to do.
"Josh is really looking forward to going. He is buzzing.
"Even if Josh wasn't going, I would still have done it. I know a lot of people with children at the school and I have already said I would be willing to do another one.
"We would really like to thank Karen and Cliff at the pub and Tom the barman, who stayed up with us all night getting coffee and energy drinks."
