A CARER has been ordered to sign the sex offenders register after sexually assaulting elderly women in sheltered housing complexes.
Douglas Keall, 61, worked as a home help for elderly men across Hull but targeted two women aged 61 and 69 during his visits to care complexes.
One woman was in a wheelchair and as she went to use a lift at a home, Keall followed her in. He refused to let her out of the lift and kissed her.
He targeted a woman as she went to visit a mobile hairdresser and made a pass at her.
One victim, now aged 70, said: "I was going to see the hairdresser and Doug came up behind me, I turned round and he kissed me on the lips."
Keall pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault committed over two years.
He pleaded guilty on the second day of his trial at Hull Crown Court.
Judge Jeremy Richardson QC said: "You behaved in a filthy way towards two ladies who were residents in care homes.
"Kissing elderly residents in care homes when they have done nothing whatsoever to encourage you is disgraceful conduct.
"It was deeply unpleasant and filthy conduct."
Keall, of Strensall Road, west Hull, has been ordered to sign the sex offenders register.
He will be sentenced next year when the Probation Service has prepared a presentence report on him.
Judge Richardson QC said: "It is however appropriate to keep a sense of proportion about all of this. The aggravating feature is the fact these were elderly ladies in care homes and you were in breach of trust.
"You must be punished and I intend to make sure you are punished. You have been extraordinarily foolish in not pleading guilty to these matters at the first opportunity.
"It seems to me that the right course of action in this case is that a high-level community order will be made in this case and there will be considerable punitive elements to it.
"Sexual offences of any kind are serious and what you did was serious."
Detective Constable Adrian Adamson said the women were left upset by his conduct.
He said: "Douglas Keall has finally admitted responsibility for what he did.
"He has used his position to sexually assault two women, leaving them frightened and extremely upset.
"Both have been extremely brave in coming forward and supporting this prosecution. "They can now begin to move on while he faces up to the consequences of his actions."
