THE future of a successful youth project in Bransholme could be under threat.

Hull City Council is looking to offload the management of Bransholme Urban Motor Project (Bumps) after recent cuts put funding for the project at risk.

The facility, based in Noddle Hill Way, is currently run by the council and has recently announced an eagerly anticipated partnership with St Paul's Boxing Academy.

Two racing teams, made up of young people from the project, are also set to compete in the final of a national karting championship next month.

Councillor Anita Harrison, of Bransholme East, is part of a voluntary group preparing to submit a management plan to take over Bumps.

"This is already a successful project and I would hate to see this facility go to waste, so a group of volunteers, including myself, got together and decided we would like to take it on and make sure Bumps continues to grow," she said.

"I want it to be a bigger part of the community and offer something the Garths area is lacking.

"Bumps is already doing some great work but, like many other services, its future has boiled down to money.

"It's times like this that everyone has to pull together and volunteers have to step forward."

Cllr Harrison along with Councillor Peter Clark, Ray Drayton from The Dales Fitness Centre and other volunteers will submit their business plan in the next few weeks.

The council is inviting private, voluntary and community organisations to put together their management plans for the motor project along with two other similar projects in the city. East Hull Wheels go-karting track in Poorhouse Lane and the Two-Wheel Centre are also to be offered under a lease agreement with the council.

Councillor Helena Spencer, portfolio holder for prevention and safeguarding children and young people and adults, said: "Leasing out the three sites will be a way of ensuring the facilities continue to operate with alternative providers.

"The council is facing a challenging financial climate and is looking at alternative ways of delivering services while ensuring continued provision for local people."

Organisations can submit plans for one, two or all three of the motor projects.

Business plans and quotations should be uploaded onto the supplier and contract management system on the YORtender website by 2pm on Monday, June 10.
