FUNDRAISERS are being urged to go "purple and proud" for the last annual Love You 2 Day on Friday.
The day will be the last of its kind as the appeal is due to end this year.
Supporters are being encouraged to hold events to raise money for the appeal, which needs £2.5m to redevelop and expand Dove House Hospice.
Youngsters at Tiptoes Day Nurseries in Hessle and west Hull have already been doing their bit, holding a "wear it purple" day yesterday.
The Hessle nursery's deputy manager, Kirsty Hobson, said: "This is the third time we've done the Love You 2 Day, as we feel it is important to help local charities.
"Dove House Hospice does a lot for our community and it is something very close to the hearts of staff and parents.
"Everyone usually knows someone who has been touched by the hospice or helped by them in some way, so we wanted to do our bit."
Children we're dressing in purple yesterday and today. Other events the nurseries are holding this week include a "guess the member of staff from their baby photo" competition, raffles, games and a lot more.
Pauline Speed, the appeal's manager, says anyone can hold an event, large or small, to help out.
She said: "This is the last time we are going to be asking people to do a Love You 2 Day, so it would be nice if people can really get behind it and make it extra special.
"Small change can make a huge difference, so people can donate as little or as much as they like – it all adds up.
"We appreciate people don't have a lot of disposable income at the moment but Love You 2 Day can be a fun way to make a bit of light relief – whether it be a dressing-up day, a coffee morning, a raffle, a brunch, a frock swap or a bring-and-buy sale. Last year's day raised about £4,000 and it would be great if we could make this year's £5,000."
The Love You 2 Appeal was launched to raise £2.5m to help redevelop the hospice site in Chamberlain Road, east hull. The appeal has so far raised £1,354,738.
Companies that have already pledged their support for Love You 2 Day include Belmont Taxis, HSBC branches in the East Riding, Jacaranda Florists, Kingston Communications, The Deep Business Centre and Tiptoes Day Nurseries.
Anyone wishing to help is urged to let the appeal office know what they are planning as soon as possible, so they can be mentioned on the website and newsletter.
Posters, flyers, pin badges, collection boxes and balloons can also be provided to promote the event.
