Egypt club in talks with Hull City about pre-season London friendly

By Shafy Mosaad in Cairo THE club which loaned striker Gedo to Hull City is lining up a pre-season friendly with the Tigers. Cairo club Al-Ahly has said it wants the friendly to be played in London as early as June. But with Hull City players not returning to the club until early July that proposal is thought to be a non-starter. It is more likely any game would be included in the Tigers' pre-Premier season preparation being planned for mid-July. It is also doubtful if City would want the game played away from the KC. In a statement on Al Ahly's website, football director Hadi Khashba said he had started negotiations with Hull City to arrange the friendly. The statement said contact had been made with "officials at Hull City for the establishment of a friendly match between Ahly and Hull City in London." The arrival earlier this year of Al-Ahly stars Gedo and Fathi prompted a surge of interest in Hull City from Egypt. City owner Assem Allam has also visited the club and last year hinted at a friendly between the two clubs to raise money for those affected by the Port Said disaster in which more than 70 people died and hundreds were injured following violence at a game between Al-Ahly and Al-Masry in Port Said. The latest friendly proposal comes as the future of both Tigers' Egyptian players remains in doubt. Gedo and Fathi are nearing the end of a six-month spell from Al-Ahly with the deal ending in late May and no sign yet that either player will be offered deals with the Tigers. Gedo has said he wants to stay and help City with its return to the Premier League. In 2009 Al-Ahly took part in the Wembley Cup along with Barcelona, Spurs and Celtic. Updated 4.15pm
