A MOTHER has been charged with murdering her five-week-old daughter.
Natasha Sultan, 21, will appear at Hull Magistrates' Court today accused of killing Amelia-Lilly Sultan-Curtis.
The baby died of head injuries in October last year after being taken to Hull Royal Infirmary from her home in Welton Grove, north Hull. She was five weeks and six days old.
Amelia-Lilly was taken to hospital on October 8 last year and was pronounced dead at 8.40am.
Miss Sultan was arrested on suspicion of murder and released on bail until yesterday, when she was formally charged.
A spokesman for Humberside Police said: "The child died of head injuries in October last year. An investigation was launched straight away and enquiries have been taking place since this time.
"The mother was arrested and released on police bail while these enquiries were undertaken."
Miss Sultan has shared several photographs of her daughter on her public Facebook page, including a picture of her cradling her shortly after she was born.
Alongside one image, posted on October 26, she wrote: "Our gorgeous little princess R.I.P darling u meant a lot 2 us even tho we only spent 5 weeks and 6 days with u it was the best time of our lives love u darling forever and ever x x."
Miss Sultan also added a photograph of a tattoo she had on December 14 last year which features a representation of her daughter's footprints, accompanied by the words: "First footprints to heaven."
Alongside the image, she wrote: "Really love my tat of my little princess Amelia's real footprints."
A death notice published in the Mail on December 28 last year described Amelia-Lilly as "a special daughter of Natasha and James".
It said: "You always kicked your socks off, scratch mittens too, you always peeped to see if one of us were holding you, you'd frown at us too.
"You are our first baby, a beautiful daughter born, all we have left are photos and memories of your hiccups and most of all memories of you. Love and miss you so much baby girl.
"You're forever in our hearts and thoughts. Mammy and Daddy xx."
On her profile, Miss Sultan says she has studied at Hull College and Kelvin Hall School in Bricknell Avenue, west Hull.
Amelia-Lilly's funeral was held on January 8, when she was buried at Northern Cemetery in Chanterlands Avenue, west Hull.
In a statement released yesterday by the Crown Prosecution Service, senior crown prosecutor Paula Craven said: "I have today authorised Humberside Police to charge Natasha Sultan with the murder of five week old Amelia-Lilly Sultan-Curtis.
"Ms Sultan has been informed of the charges and will appear before Hull magistrates tomorrow morning."
