ONLY two official objections have been submitted against plans to open a sex shop on the A63.
A licensing application to convert a former Little Chef restaurant, near South Cave, will be heard by councillors later this month.
Both objections describe the proposed location on the westbound carriageway of the main road out of Hull as "inappropriate".
However, Humberside Police has not lodged any objection to the application by Rotherham-based sex shop chain Cocktails Ltd.
If given the go-ahead, it would the East Riding's first licensed sex shop.
The company already operates a large licensed adult store in Mount Pleasant, in east Hull.
The former Little Chef diner closed five years ago.
The property later reopened as a café but has been empty for about three years.
In papers released ahead of the council licensing committee, one of the two unnamed objectors said: "Our objection is based on the significance of the location as a welcome route into the city and we do not feel that this is the type of image we want to portray as we continue to raise the profile of the city and the area."
Both objections also cite moral grounds for their opposition, although the report says moral reasons cannot be taken into consideration when deciding on any application for a sex establishment.
In a separate submission, the company's managing director Graham Kidd said the site of the proposed store was no different to several of his other shops which were located on out-of-town roadside locations, including two in Lincolnshire, which were also former restaurants.
"From a licensing perspective, this type of property is very suitable for a sex establishment licence as it is on a non-pedestrian road and customers will be travelling by car to visit the store, which ensures that minors will not simply be passing by," he said.
The report says East Riding Council's licensing officers are recommending approval.
