DAVE Hodgson may have a Challenge Cup winners medal – but his only final appearance at Wembley ended in defeat.
In 2002, the winger was fortunate enough come off the bench for Wigan in their final victory over St Helens at Murrayfield.
He then went on to play at Wembley for Huddersfield in their 2009 defeat to Warrington.
Now, with Rovers facing his former club tomorrow and Hodgson just three wins from a hat-trick of finals, he is desperate for another crack at winning at Wembley.
He said: "The win at Murrayfield was a great experience, but everyone wants to play at Wembley and win a Challenge Cup.
"I played at Wembley for Huddersfield and although we lost, playing there was massive.
"The Challenge Cup goes back a long way. I used to watch it as a kid with all those great teams playing at Wembley and lifting the trophy.
"It's a massive thing for players, especially when you get that little bit further in the competition, you settle in a bit and realise how special it could be."
Although Hodgson knows it will be a tough contest tomorrow, he insists there are no certainties in knockout rugby.
"The Challenge Cup is about whoever turns up on the day. If we play well, who's to say we can't turn them over?" he said.
"Teams may find it a bit intimidating coming to our place. It's a great atmosphere because the fans get behind the team and it gives us that extra little spark
"It would be good to have a run but we've got a tough task against Wigan before we look any further. If we get through that, who knows how far we can go?"
