ALMOST 200 people cheered on dazzling contestants who shone at the Miss Great Britain East Yorkshire competition.

The beauty pageant, which took place at the KC Stadium, saw 19 women from across the region glide down the catwalk and impress the judges.

But it was hairdresser Kelly Winter, of Hedon, who had the crown placed on top of her bright blonde locks.

Kelly, who works at Kreative Hair and Beauty in the town, said: "The night of the finals was absolutely amazing. I enjoyed every single minute of it, from rehearsals to the show.

"All of the girls where lovely and it was an experience I will cherish forever.

"I won the Miss Popularity award on the night, too, and I was so pleased with that.

"Then to hear my name as the winner of Miss Great Britain East Yorkshire 2013 was just incredible.

"I never expected to win it and I am still in shock.

"I will make everyone proud and I am over the moon."

Kelly, 24, is now looking forward to her year as Miss Great Britain East Yorkshire 2013 and cannot wait for the finals in November in Leicester.

The event also held a charity raffle with prizes all donated by the contestants and they raised £142 for the RSPCA. One of Kelly's first jobs will be to deliver the cheque.

The Miss Great Britain team are also keen to get involved with other charity work throughout the year.

Runner-up was Kara Milner, with Jessie Palmer in third place, Lucy Heath fourth and Roxanne Cooper fifth.

Cally Beech, a former pageant winner, directed the competition for the first time.

Her mum Julie said they had been panicking for weeks hoping it would all go well.

She said: "Cally pulled out all the stops and it was a brilliant night."
