The Conservatives have held two seats on East Riding Council after two by-elections.
However it was a close-run thing with UKIP finishing a strong second in both contests.
In Mid-Holderness. first-time Tory candidate John Holtby just held off UKIP's Gary Shores to win by just 84 votes.

In Howdenshire, another Conservative newcomer Victoria Aitken enjoyed a slightly more comfortable victory with a 313-vote majority over UKIP's Clive Waddington.
She said: "We got there in the end but it was close."
Mike Hookem, UKIP's Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire chairman, said: "They were both seen as safe Tory seats but we took them to the wire. Despite not winning in Mid-Holderness, they were good results.
