We can get married and have children at 16 but we can't vote

IT IS considered a right to be given the chance to vote.

If this is the case, then why can you only vote once you've turned 18 under UK law?

I believe that everybody has a voice and that everyone has the right to be heard.

Isn't freedom of speech also a basic human right?

Back in 2005, the Government voted against reducing the voting age to 16, something that has been considered for many years and is now being considered once more.

My argument for reducing the legal age to vote to 16 is as follows:

It will increase teenagers' enthusiasm for politics, knowing that they are allowed to vote and can have a say in how the country is run.

This will mean an increased voter turnout thus reversing our country's growing trend for a low voter turnout.

About 60 per cent of youngsters have a job before they turn 16, so in my opinion, we should get a say in who should be in power and how our tax money is spent.

If you can join the Army at 16, get married and have children of your own, why shouldn't you also get to vote?

Surely you should have a say in how much benefits parents get, and how money is given to the Armed Forces.

My last point is that the current government is attacking youth services and the youngsters involved should be given the chance to argue against these youth service attacks.

Currently in my campaign so far, I have managed to get the support of Hull East Labour MP Karl Turner.

In a meeting with Turner in regards to my campaign, he said he was in favour of lowering the age limit for people to vote to 16.

I have also been able to get the support of Hull North Labour MP Diana Johnson who said she had supported votes at 16 since being elected in 2005.

If you would like to support my campaign, visit www.campaignengineroom. org.uk and sign the petition.

It would also be appreciated if you could share the petition with your friends and family because young adults should also have the right to vote.
