Traffic came to a standstill in Spring Bank West this morning after the new bus lane opened.
Motorists were quick to take to Twitter to slam the lane near Chanterlands Avenue which is meant to reduce congestion along the road.
Peter Shipp, chairman of East Yorkshire Motor Services, welcomed the move, but commuters this morning weren't happy.
One Twitter user posted: "Traffic gridlock in parts of Hull today. Buses going nowhere fast. Just a coincidence there's a new bus lane on one of the busiest roads."
Another motorist wrote: "Dear Hull City Council, why fix something that isn't broken (Spring Bank West bus lane)."
