Tigers fans remain upbeat despite Watford's victory over Leicester City this evening.
Hull City were hoping former boss Nigel Pearson would do them a favour with a Foxes victory securing City's promotion.
But Watford won 2-1 at the King Power Stadium meaning the Tigers will have to beat Barnsley away tomorrow to secure promotion this weekend.
But fans who watched tonight's game at the Queen's pub in west Hull are optimistic.
James Evans, 25, of west Hull said: "It is still in our hands but it would have been nice for Nigel Pearson to do us a favour.
"I'll be heading to Barnsley on the train tomorrow and we are still confident.
"But if we don't win tomorrow then we may struggle. It'll be a big one."
Graham Warner, 52, of north Hull, will also be heading to South Yorkshire.
He said: "I think we will win tomorrow so I don't think tonight's result matters that much.
"It is still in our hands so that's what matters."
The match at Oakwell will kick off at 3pm. If City fail to win tomorrow then they may well need to beat champions Cardiff City at the KC next weekend.
