HULL FC have drawn up a shortlist of three leading targets to fill the scrum-half role – with Wests Tigers Jacob Miller still in their sights.
The Black and Whites will step up their search to bring in a new half-back – possibly even for the rest of this season – following the release of Brett Seymour yesterday.
Seymour's departure and the continued absence of Daniel Holdsworth with a head injury, means FC coach Peter Gentle is without the two halves who started the season.
Hull spoke to scrum-half Miller at the end of last season about joining for the 2013 campaign, a deal that was swiftly ended when Wests sacked Tim Sheens and appointed new head coach Mick Potter.
Miller knows Gentle well from their time together at Wests, and is out of contract at the end of the year.
The 20-year-old started the seasons for Wests, but was recently dropped in favour of a half-back combination of Benji Marshall and Braith Anasta.
Both those players are understood to now be carrying injuries, opening a door for a return to the Tigers team for Miller and another chance to impress Potter.
The former Aussie Schoolboys player is unlikely to remain at Wests beyond this season, however, and could be tempted to leave the NRL early to come to the aid of his friend and former coach Gentle.
Speculation has intensified in the past 24 hours that Miller could be a Hull player by the end of next week, although sources have told the Mail it may not be as cut and dry as that.
Hull are exploring several options and while Miller is understood to be top of that list, the youngster's availability for this season, as well as arranging a visa and work permit may see Hull look elsewhere for a solution which will meet their needs both short and long term.
