OLYMPIC Gold medalist Luke Campbell is weighing up offers from two rival big-time boxing promoters – and says he'll make a decision on his next career step by the end of the week.
Campbell has not boxed since beating John Joe Nevin in the Olympic final last August, but confirmation of a return to the ring is now close.
The 25-year-old has been the subject of a bidding war as rival promoters seek the signature of the most sought-after amateur boxer in the country.
The Mail understands Matchroom Sport, headed up by Eddie Hearn, have been courting Campbell in an effort to get the bantamweight to sign with their dominant stable of boxers.
Golden Boy Promotions, led by six-time world champion Oscar De La Hoya have also been keen to land Campbell, having already signed up his GB team-mate and good friend Anthony Ogogo.
The St Paul's boxer has rarely been out of training since last summer's Olympics despite his heavy schedule of public events and his participation on television show Dancing On Ice, in which he finished third.
Campbell has remained tight-lipped on his future throughout, only confirming he will return to the ring this year, but stopping short of confirming whether that will be as a professional or still as an amateur.
Campbell has taken his time on making his decision, not wanting to cast aside the lure of completing his amateur haul with gold in the World Championships, to add to his British, European and Olympic gold.
The prospect of retaining his gold medal in Rio in 2016 is also something he has considered.
However, with nothing left to prove in the amateur ranks and his position as Great Britain's most successful boxer ever at that level secured, Campbell is expected to turn professional, with a deal with Hearn's Matchroom Sport the most likely outcome.
