ROBINS winger Alex Brown wants Hull KR to use this weekend's Challenge Cup clash with St Helens to put a double disappointment behind him.
Brown was more frustrated than most of his team-mates when he left the John Smith's Stadium on Sunday after seeing former side Huddersfield beat his current employers 50-30.
Whilst that was hard for the 26-year-old to take, he was equally disappointed by the fact he failed to turn in a good show in front of his family, who had made the short trip to the ground from their home nearby.
But Brown intends to use the experience as motivation this week when the Robins will look to advance to the fifth round of the cup at the expense of Saints at MS3 Craven Park.
"It was very disappointing not to come away from Huddersfield with the points," he told the Mail.
"I want to win every game we play, but losing this one was a double blow for me personally.
"I had extra nerves before the game, but playing in front of my family in my home town was good. Sadly we couldn't get the win.
"We want to win every game so it doesn't matter to us whether the St Helens game coming up is a cup or a Super League match.
"Hopefully, we can respond and turn things around."
Brown may not boast tonnes of Super League experience just yet, but he knows where Rovers' problems lie as they go into Saturday's cup tie.
They have conceded 148 points in their last three matches to slip out of the play-off places.
Brown knows they must tighten up defensively or their dream of reaching the Challenge Cup final for the first time since 1986 will be over at the first hurdle.
"We need to go back to working on improving our defence," he said.
"If we can score 30 points against a side which is second in the table it shows there isn't much wrong with our attack.
"If we can keep our defence strong hopefully we can restrict our opponents at the other end of the pitch.
"We are not going to say that just because we beat St Helens last week in the league that we can do it again.
"We know we will have to work very hard for the win."
Brown originally shot onto the scene in dramatic fashion, scoring four tries in his first two matches for Rovers.
But he has only scored one in his last six games, against St Helens, and he still has a lot of areas to work on.
"I'm learning every week," added Brown.
"Craig Sandercock speaks to me after every video session to try to improve me.
"He tells me where I'm going wrong and how I can do better.
"I'm really enjoying my run in the team."
