ENGLAND rugby league coach Steve McNamara got more than 130 runners off to a flying start in the Beverley Braves 5k fun run this weekend. The Hull-born rugby star fired the gun to start the annual race which was held to raise money for Beverley Braves Amateur Rugby League Club (BBARLC). Linda Rowbotham, treasurer for the Beverley Braves, helped organise the event, kick starting the build-up to this year's Rugby League World Cup. and took part in the race. "It was a great honour and a fantastic for the kids to have Steve at the race," she said. "The turnout was slightly better than last year and, hopefully, we will have raised more money than last year too." All of the money raised will go towards providing new equipment and new kits for all of the teams at Beverley Braves. Saturday's event attracted runners of all ages, with the youngest competitor being five years old and the oldest aged 75.
