A BRIDE and groom have admitted taking part in a sham marriage.

The pair were part of a gang who are alleged to have organised a sham marriage in the city.

Fake bride Vania Pinheiro-Fernandes, 29, of Manchester, and her groom Jayeola Abiola, 27, of Grafton Street, west Hull, were part of a marriage scam organised by Abiola Kumoye.

The three of them have all pleaded guilty to conspiring to facilitate a breach of immigration law by arranging a marriage they knew to be false to enable Jayeola Abiola to stay in the UK.

Officers from the UK Border Agency carried out arrests after staff at Hull Register Office questioned the legitimacy of the documents provided by the prospective bride and groom.

Hull City Council said they follow General Register Office guidelines and were unable to comment further on the investigation.

Kumoye, 34, of Manchester, also admits organising a false marriage for financial purposes and concealing and disguising criminal property.

Hull Crown Court heard he acquired £2,650 between October 14 and November 9.

A fourth man Ayodeji Abbis, who is alleged to have been the best man, denies the same charge.

He is also alleged to have had possession of £1,000 knowing or suspecting it to be the proceeds of criminal conduct.

Mr Abbis, 25, of Leeds, will now stand trial in May.

Abiola's barrister Rodney Ferm told the court his client wished to be deported immediately upon sentence.

He had taken part in the marriage scam to gain UK citizenship.

Recorder Margia Mostafa told Pinheiro-Fernandes, Abiola and Kumoye that they will be sentenced in June.

Pinheiro-Fernandes and Abiola have been remanded into custody. Kumoye and Mr Abbis have been granted bail.
