CYCLISTS injured at a notorious west Hull roundabout where a man was killed over Easter are demanding safety improvements.

Peter Finch, 46, died in hospital from serious head injuries after the latest accident at the Derringham Bank roundabout.

Since the Easter Sunday tragedy, the Mail has received calls from cyclists who have also been knocked off their bikes at the same spot, where Willerby Road and Spring Bank West meet.

Adam Nicholson, 27, of east Hull, was injured in a hit-and-run accident at the roundabout on March 7.

He said: "I was coming down Spring Bank West and was about to exit down Willerby Road when I was hit by a car.

"The car stopped but while someone tended to me, the driver sped off without giving his details. He has never been found."

Mr Nicholson, an electrician, lost two front teeth and suffered a broken nose in the accident, which he blames on the design of the roundabout.

He said: "It's just really badly designed and the pedestrian crossings are too near the roundabout, which causes confusion and sudden braking."

Student Becky Pocklington, 17, of Hessle, suffered cuts and bruises after she was knocked off her bike last September.

Her mother, Paula Talbot, said: "She was on her way to Wyke College when she was hit by a van that didn't stop.

"Becky avoids the roundabout now but, twice before the accident, she was cut up by traffic. The council needs to look at the design of it."

Richard Dyke, 43, of west Hull, says he narrowly avoided injury when he came off his moped at the roundabout in July 2011.

Mr Dyke said: "Cars in front braked sharply when they came over the roundabout and saw people using the crossing.

"I didn't want to hit anyone, so I steered into a barrier instead."

Last week, John Chapman, 55, of west Hull, told how he had warned someone would be killed last summer after he was knocked off his cycle.

He said: "I felt sick when I heard a cyclist had been killed. I almost feel guilty because I knew this would happen but no one listened."

The Mail put the concerns of cyclists to Hull City Council.

In a statement, Streetscene manager Andy Burton, said: "As this unfortunate incident is currently being investigated by Humberside Police, we are unable to comment.

"However, the safety of all road users and pedestrians is paramount and we all have a responsibility to make our roads safer.

"Hull City Council is informed by the police of all injury accidents that take place within the city.

"We then look at the details of the incident to see if there are any patterns developing, for example location and the time of accident, to see if any changes or improvements can be made to the layout of the road, street lighting or road surface, to help reduce the risk of injury accidents from taking place again at this location."
