HULL KR chairman Neil Hudgell says he will do all he can to find a new financial backer capable of achieving the club's dreams.
Hudgell yesterday confirmed he and vice-chairman Rob Crossland have decided they cannot continue funding the Robins alone after this season.
It comes as the pair say they are unable to take the club to the next level, with the top four Super League clubs now 'light years ahead' in terms of finances, resources and fan base.
Estimating it would take at least another £500,000 financial input a year alongside their own to compete with the best, Hudgell said he felt it was time for a new era to start at the club.
"I have made my mind up. There has been three or four cycles of 'what are you going to do' and it's not about me," Hudgell said.
"It is very unhealthy when there is a recurring discussion about whether people are going to stay around, so for complete clarity, at the end of the season, I want to be back in the east stand enjoying the game more, hopefully sponsoring the club.
"I wouldn't walk away. I'd still be a fan, I'd still be a sponsor. I have been a very proud chairman of the club, I love it to bits and I don't love it any less than since I was a boy.
"I feel I have got a great responsibility for it and my message is I am going to extract every ounce of energy over the next few months to find somebody that will come in and achieve our dreams."
Speaking to BBC Radio Humberside after his side's 22-14 win over St Helens yesterday afternoon, Hudgell said even he was unclear as to what would happen at the club over the coming months.
However, he revealed there are already interested parties coming forward, giving him confidence KR will find the investors they need.
He added: "I am confident. We have people already knocking on the door and asking about the opportunity. I am confident people will understand what the brand of Hull KR is about, it's a big name in rugby league and who knows, if we can get the right investment opportunity, we may well stay involved.
"We can't get to where I want us to get to with my resources though. That's me and Rob. Are there other people out there that want to make this journey with us? That's the question. If there aren't, it's not for me any longer.
"As it stands at the minute, I am struggling for the energy for the job after this length of time.
"If that is the case we need to really look at who is going to take us on to that next level."
Hudgell admitted the news of his and Crossland's decision would leave some fans concerned.
But he added: "I have got to exercise some level of responsibility because ultimately I am a supporter of the club. I'm an east Hull lad. I'm one of these people.
"My energies over the next four or five months are to actively find investment to take this wonderful club forward."
