THE Bridlington soldier who lost his leg after he was blown up in Afghanistan is facing a second amputation.
Former Private Aron Shelton has been told by doctors it is "inevitable" he will have to have his right leg amputated when his arthritis becomes unbearable to live with.
Aron, 29, won the support of people in his home town of Bridlington in 2010 after the Government cut his disability allowance.
The decision was eventually overturned by a tribunal after a year-long battle.
Aron Shelton, who lost his friend in the blast, has just become a father for the first time and says he's dreading the day he loses his other leg.
He said: "It could be in the next year or it could be a lot longer.
"Deciding whether or not to have my left leg amputated was the worst three months of my life.
"I have been told by doctors I will lose the other at some point. The pain is moderate at the moment but gets worse when its cold.
"If I'm sitting on a sunny beach, it's not bad at all but that's rare."
The volunteer for the Royal British Legion was injured in the blast in Afghanistan six years ago, which killed his colleague and friend Drummer Thomas Wright.
Aron and his fianceé, Callan Fowler, welcomed their baby girl Macie-Louise into the world four weeks ago and say they are "over the moon" with their new arrival.
Aron, whose family live in Bridlington, said: "It's absolutely amazing to be a dad and my parents are really proud.
"People say she looks like me and it's been a brilliant experience for both of us.
"At the moment, my injuries aren't a problem when looking after my daughter because I can have her on my knee to feed her.
"I'm a happy man and I don't want my life to be disrupted with another operation.
"I wasn't shocked when I was told I'd lose my other leg because it is severely damaged.
"In the long run, I know I will be better off and be able to walk further with prosthetic limbs.
"But I hope it doesn't happen anytime soon."
