THEY have spent 70 years of marriage adoring each other and been on more than 172 flights to Spain for romantic breaks.
Now, Clarence Buckton and his beloved wife Audrey are celebrating their platinum wedding anniversary.
The couple were married on December 5, 1942, at St John's Church in Newland as snowflakes began to fall.
The pair first set eyes on each other at a dance at Beverley Road Baths.
Audrey, 89, said: "It was my step-sister's birthday and Clarence and I danced the night away.
"The next night we went on our first date to a variety show and the rest is history.
"Goodness knows how he proposed but I was his and he was mine and that was it."
The couple, of Cranswick Grove, have two sons, Melvyn and Graham, two grandsons and two great- grandsons.
Clarence, 93, was an engineer with the NHS for 28 years until his retirement in 1980, while Audrey used to be a shorthand typist and worked for the Ministry of Food during the war years.
The pair received a photo- graph from Her Majesty congratulating them on their wedding anniversary.
Clarence said: "We used to go to Spain four times a year and we still go at least once.
"We love the sunshine and have already been to Majorca this year.
"Audrey has looked after me and she's been a brilliant mother to our children, who both did well in their exams and went to university.
"The only thing she has done that I did not approve of was making me get rid of my car a few years ago. She is a wicked woman.
"We used to go to Blackpool and back in a day and had some wonderful trips.
"I have three bicycles in my garage but she won't let me out on them, she says 'It's safety first'."
Audrey said she just wants to keep her husband safe and the secret to a long marriage is "give and take".
She said: "We have a lot of the same interests, including gardening and walking when we are away.
"You have to be interested in each other and listen to your partner.
"We have had some great times over the years. I don't know anybody else who has been married for 70 years and still lives at home with their husband.
"We had a party to celebrate our anniversary. It was great to see all of the family on this special occasion."
