HULL FC officials were today due to sit down with KC Stadium management after a bottle was thrown at a Hull KR player during the Good Friday derby.

Supporters watched a bottle, believed to have been thrown by a Hull FC fan sitting in the South Stand, narrowly miss Hull KR centre Kris Welham.

James Clark, head of communications, media and marketing at Hull FC, confirmed a match debrief was taking place this morning and he would be examining reports.

Last night, he said: "Owing to the Easter bank holiday, the usual match debrief will not be held until tomorrow.

"We will be talking the Stadium Management Company's ground safety officer and other staff.

"We will be also be looking at the match commissioner's report, as well as the report produced by Humberside Police.

"Unfortunately, until after that meeting, we are not able to comment further."

The incident happened as Hull-born Welham, 26, celebrated a try – which was disallowed – in the 66th minute of the 100th derby.

Welham was spotted apparently discussing the matter with referee Steve Ganson.

Meanwhile, Hull KR fans, largely confined to the stadium's North Stand, were spotted letting off red smoke bombs.

Hull FC fans in the lower tier of the West Stand have also claimed they had drinks poured on them by Rovers' supporters above them.

In total, five arrests are believed to have been made, although Mr Clark stressed the vast majority of the 19,064 fans inside the ground behaved impeccably and soaked up the derby atmosphere.

Dudley Stow, treasurer of the Hull KR Supporters' Association, said he did not witness any trouble.

However, he condemned the actions of the supporter who hurled the bottle at Welham.

Mr Stow said: "Kris didn't help matters and he should really have used his brain before he ran over to Hull fans.

"Derby matches are always volatile but throwing a bottle on to the pitch is a big, 'no no'. The culprit needs to get a ban."

No one from Hull KR or Humberside Police was available for comment yesterday, despite repeated attempts.

Hull KR cruised to a 23-10 victory in the first competitive derby of the season.
