EAST YORKS: Ambulance staff are holding a one-day strike tomorrow in a dispute over patient safety and the de-recognition of their union.
Unite has said its 450 paramedics and other ambulance staff working at Yorkshire Ambulance Service are to strike.
The union says it had twice attempted to discuss the implications of industrial action but the management at the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust declined.
Unite regional officer Terry Cunliffe said: "The management has been trying to silence Unite after it raised legitimate concerns over patient safety that could flow from the shake-up of ambulance services in the next five years."
The trust says it will work to minimise the impact.
HULL: A new city council hotline is being launched tomorrow offering dedicated help and advice on housing and council tax benefit queries as well as general welfare issues.
It coincides with major changes to a number of welfare regimes, including benefit reductions for social housing tenants classed as having spare bedrooms.
The new number is in addition to the existing 300300 service for other council service queries.
EAST YORKS: An estimated 500 lobsters have been rescued from Barmston beach, near Bridlington.
Other shellfish including crabs and mussels washed up on the beach and have been rescued by fishermen. Experts blame the strong easterly winds and cold sea temperatures.
HULL: Five rugby fans are believed to have been arrested at the Good Friday derby match between Hull KR and Hull FC.
Several smoke bombs were let off during the match in the away end. There were also reports of bottles being thrown on the pitch from the South Stand. Supporters say four fans were thrown out of the stadium during the match.
