Vinyl copies of David Bowie's new album has been flying off the shelves at a Hull music shop a week early after a record company mix-up.
Spin It Records in Trinity Market was shocked to see LP The Next Day on the shelves ahead of its worldwide release on Monday.
Owners had been told by Sony that a lorry carrying stacks of the records had been involved in an accident and they had all been destroyed.
Steve Mathie from the record store said: "The release date was pushed back and we thought the damaged records had all gone back to the manufacturer.
"But then, all of a sudden 30 turned up at the shop in good condition and they sold out in just a day after people had been anxiously checking when they were being delivered."
Digital formats of The Next Day were released on March 11, but until now the vinyl LP version has not been available.Steve said he had people come in and order the 17-track LP and free CD, which is the first to be recorded by Bowie in more than ten years.
Fans snapped them up and the store is now in the process of ordering more to meet high demand.
"People have been waiting for the LP and it's amazing to see the older artists causing the biggest waves," Steve said. "You don't get people rushing in to buy the latest album from The Killers.
"We also had a lot of interest with the last AC/DC release.
"I think the vocal quality on the Bowie album is fantastic, it's back to how he used to sound in the early days.
"I was a fan back then when I was a teenager and it's good to see him still releasing music."
Steve said the album cover, a twist on his Heroes release, is "mysterious" and the fact that Bowie hasn't given any interviews makes people wonder about his inspiration for the new album.
When news spread of Bowie's new material, sales of his back catalogue shot up and the media focused on his illustrious career as an entertainer, looking back over the past 40 years.
"There are some good bonus tracks on the new LP and it has the Heroes cover blacked out with The Next Day written over it," Steve said.
"People come in and say that they thought eBay was the Mecca for buying records but it's not.
"We are doing well at the business at the minute but it can be difficult to get hold of the good stuff.
"I doubt there were many other shops in the country who managed to get their hands on the Bowie LP early.
"It's wonderful to see a shop in Hull have an exclusive delivery of the album for fans. It was quite exciting and I made sure I got a copy."
