More than 150 people auditioned for the next series of the X Factor in the city.
A mobile unit was set up at the Prospect Shopping Centre this week, attracting hundreds of hopefuls.
Having extended the audition time by an hour, the producers were still only able to see 152 wannabe popstars throughout the afternoon.
Of the 152 hopefuls, 52 were given the all-important thumbs-up.
Lee Appleton, Prospect Shopping Centre manager, said: "It was great to see so many talented people here at Prospect for the X Factor auditions.
"I hope all that took part go far in the competition, as it would be another positive story for the city of Hull."
Last year's winner James Arthur was discovered at a mobile audition in Middlesbrough.
He went on to have the fastest-selling single of last year with his song Impossible.
Those who were told "yes" by the show's bosses will now go on to further auditions in Manchester.
