A NEW multi-million pound family entertainment centre in east Hull is hoped to be open in the next six months – after building work stalled last year.
The site of the old Kwik Save building in Holderness Road is being taking over by Centre Plus, which promises to create up to 150 jobs.
A new marketing suite has opened in the road to promote the services the site will offer. They include a KidzPlus children's day nursery, Kaffe Bar, soft play zone, Active Plus gym and performing arts academy for music, dance and performance.
Karen Arundel, centre manager, said: "As we open later this year, we have already offered employment opportunities to about 95 local people who are waiting for the launch.
"People must have been having their doubts about us opening, which is why we have launched the marketing suite. We want to have a visible presence here and have taken on one new staff member."
At Easter, Centre Plus is launching the first of many activities – The Dean Windass Soccer School – with the former Hull City player and other coaches.
Children aged between seven and 14 can sign up for the scheme, which is run in partnership with Archbishop Sentamu Academy, from where it will run.
Karen said: "It's such a great opportunity for children.
"This centre is going to offer so much to the local community and take over a huge empty unit.
"We changed our name from KidzPlus to Centre Plus because it's not just about children now, our plans have expanded and we will even host citizen tea parties for the elderly where they can get up and have a dance."
