Flights suspended at Humberside Airport as snow hits Hull and East Yorkshire

Flights are suspended at Humberside Airport this morning after heavy snow fell across the region. Passengers are advised to check with airline KLM before travelling. High winds and drifting snow are causing problems at the airport. East Midlands, Robin Hood and Leeds Bradford airports were all warning of delays due to snow. Trains and buses are running as normal, but motorists are being warning to take care on rural routes in the East Riding. East Riding Council said ploughs had been operating on the A1034 because of snow drifts. Up to three inches has fallen in areas west of Beverley. Snow and sleet is expected to continue falling this morning, but will die out this afternoon. Temperatures will remain around freezing but the wind chill will make it feel much colder. A Met Office "yellow" weather warning remains in place throughout today. One lane of the Humber Bridge northbound was closed earlier this morning because of an accident, but has now been reopened. A car came off the road and crashed into a telegraph pole near Goole last night, but the driver was not seriously hurt. Humberside Police has reported no serious accidents this morning. Sporting fixtures are being affected by the weather. Hull RUFC's match at Leicester is among those to be postponed.Updated 8.30am. More to follow.
