SHANNON McDonnell says it's vital Hull FC don't become content with competing in big games and must now find a way of winning tight matches.
Hull fell to a fourth defeat of the season when going down 24-10 at league-leaders Huddersfield Giants last weekend.
It saw them compete strongly against one of the competition's strongest outfits, as they did in a recent loss to Warrington and a draw at St Helens.
Leading 10-6 at the John Smith's Stadium on Saturday, Hull again saw a chance for two points lost as 18 unanswered points saw the Giants cut free for victory.
And eager to not be content with a spirited performance, McDonnell says there is a pressing need for FC to start picking up points and build some consistency, starting with Saturday's trip to London.
"We don't want to be winning a game here and then losing a game there, we need to be putting some points on the board, and not be happy with just being in the games," McDonnell told the Mail.
"Against Huddersfield we had a high completion rate, everyone was willing to win, but little things didn't go our way. We put ourselves in the right position but we didn't execute in the end.
"It is disappointing because we don't want to be happy with just competing with the top sides, we want to be winning these games.
"It is a big game this weekend. The confidence is still there. We are not far off and we are in games, but we need to find a way to win these games.
"We have to work hard week to week and keep our focus on the game ahead, and not what's coming up after that or what's been before."
Hull head south this weekend to face a Broncos team who hauled themselves off the bottom of the table with a comfortable win at Castleford.
Both sides boast just two wins each this season, and each will be seeking a morale-boosting win ahead of the busy Easter period of three games in nine days.
With the all-important match against Hull KR looming on Good Friday, McDonnell admits now would be the ideal time for Hull to get on a roll.
"The London game is massively important. It is a tough game and they've started to find their form," he said.
"We need a good performance, especially to take into the derby game the week after. We have to start putting some results together."
The Black and Whites suffered a disrupted build-up ahead of the Giants game, with five of those involved needing late fitness tests to play.
Coach Peter Gentle is hoping for no such headaches this week, and will also have Danny Tickle available after his one-match ban, while prop Paul Johnson, is also expected to be fit.
