A West Hull takeaway has been closed down after a dead mouse was discovered under the counter. Yorkshire Pizza in Beverley Road, popular with late-night revellers leaving the nearby Welly Club, was closed after a routine inspection by Hull City Council's environmental health officers discovered an extensive mouse infestation throughout the takeaway. A Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Order was granted at Hull Magistrates Court because of the imminent risk to public health. Trevor Todd, assistant head of service for public protection, said: "The premises and equipment were dirty throughout. There was also food contamination which posed a serious and imminent risk to public health. "These conditions, along with evidence of a heavy mouse infestation, left the environmental health officers with little option other than to immediately close the business and apply to the magistrates for a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Order." The inspection resulted in Yorkshire Pizza being rated as zero on the food hygiene rating scheme. Environmental health officers will now work with the owner to ensure satisfactory improvements are made quickly. All businesses should now be displaying new certificates and stickers with a rating between zero to five. Go to www.food.gov.uk/ratings to check the scores.
