Hull FC couldn't hold on to a second-half lead as Huddersfield Giants took the spoils at the John Smith's Stadium.
Hull came from behind to lead thanks to a much-improved performance but didn't get their rewards as their hosts hit them with 18 points in the final 20 minutes.
Huddersfield had the better of the early exchanges and opened the scoring on 19 minutes when Shaun Lunt went from dummy-half and left Ben Galea and Chris Green flat-footed.
The visitors found themselves coming under increased pressure but held firm before wrestling the advantage back in their favour.
Enjoying a first foray toward the Giants' try line, the Black and Whites hit back as Ben Galea took a pass from Danny Houghton before bundling his way over the try line.
Daniel Holdsworth missed a simple conversion to leave Hull trailing at half-time, but within five minutes of the re-start the visitors were in front.
Holdsworth's flicked pass inside set Shannon McDonnell on his way and when he kicked behind the Giants' defence, Ben Crooks was perfectly placed to touch down the loose ball.
The Giants regained the lead thanks to Aaron Murphy's converted try in the corner, but there was a touch of controversy with Joe Wardle's flick on to Murphy appearing forward.
Hull's frustration only intensified when first Wardle scored on the break after a forward pass that was missed, then Danny Brough converted a penalty to put the hosts eight points clear.
With the game won, Scott Grix crossed over in the last minute to give the scoreline an unfair reflection.
