THE mother of a teenage soldier killed in Afghanistan says she is growing frustrated at the wait for DNA test results that will show if she is a grandmother.
Johnathon Young, 18, was killed instantly after stepping on a Taliban bomb while on patrol in August 2009.
Last year, Amy Collins, 21, revealed she had a fling with the soldier shortly before he flew to the war zone.
She claims Johnathon is the father of her son, Layton, who turns three next month.
However, a test capable of proving, beyond doubt, if Johnathon is the father has still not been carried out.
Johnathon's mother, Angie Fox, 42, of Orchard Park, said: "It's awful not knowing. We all just want to know once and for all. Everyone on the estate has been asking and I keep having to tell them I still don't know."
When Layton was four weeks old, Angie paid for a DNA test using samples from her, Amy and Layton.
However, the result came back "inconclusive" as the company did not have Johnathon's DNA.
Angie and Amy then obtained permission from the Army to extract DNA samples from a toothbrush and razor used by Johnathon on the frontline.
Since then, Angie and Amy have waited for a further DNA test to be arranged.
Angie said: "We can't believe it is taking so long.
"I need to know for sure if I am Layton's Nana.
"We hoped we would have the test and results back by last Christmas but Amy tells me the test has not even been organised yet by the solicitors.
"The solicitors apparently sent a kit to Amy's GP, but her practice does not do DNA testing.
"Amy has been given a list of clinics that do the testing, but the solicitors have not returned both our calls."
Angie revealed previously how Layton calls her "Nana".
She said: "When Amy told me about him, when he was born, I was shocked. But I knew I had to face it.
"Straightaway, as soon as I saw him, I felt a real bond with him and it has grown."
Johnathon, a private in 3rd Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment, deployed to Afghanistan on August 2, 2009.
